Outline of Events


Antique Engine Show
Local engine entusiasts bring a display of antique engines to show how machines improved the quality of life for our ancestors. From water pumps to mechanized washing machines, the show always has a crowd.

Appalachian Rangers
Visitors to the Jackson's Mill Historic Area will find an encampment manned by the Appalachian Rangers Muzzleloading Club, a group that presents life in pre-1840 West Virginia. These reenactors set up tents and allow Jubilee visitors to relive the past.

Bum the Wonder Horse
Melvin Langford of Lewis County brings his trained equine buddy, Bum, to perform tricks for the crowds. Bum and Melvin can be found by the Historic area.

Craft Show
The Jubilee Craft Show is one of the high points for many visitors. Over 200 heritage crafters demonstrate and sell their handmade wares. It is one of the nicest juried shows in the state.

Fine Arts Show
From its inception, the Jubilee has encouraged artists to participate in the fine arts show. It is important for artists to receive a prospectus for entry into the show.

Glass Blowing Demonstrations
The glass industry, which played such an important role in the development of central West Virginia, will be featured at the Jubilee. A local glass manufacturer will provide live demonstrations of glass blowing.

Heritage Dancing
Dance is a timeless and universal language that reflects societies in every part of the world. That is a true for the settlers who came to this area. A number of heritage dancers will perform at the Jubilee.


Jackson's MIll Historic Area
Four historical buildings, a multi-purpose center and a blacksmith shop are located here. The historic buildings include: McWhorter Cabin and Blaker Mill, both 200-year-old structures; the 150-year-old Gristmill that belonged to Stonewall Jacksonšs family, 150-year-old Mary Conrad Cabin. The Mountain State Log Building and a blacksmith shop are the newest buildings in the area. The Living Museum, grist milling demonstrations, and the encampment of the Appalachian Rangers are highlights during the Jubilee.

Marble Display and Games
Marvin George has made it his goal to reintroduce West Virginia children to marble games that our fathers and grandfathers so enjoyed. Tournaments are held during the Jubilee.

Music
More than two hundred heritage musicians take the barn stage. The music is heritage in nature and no electronic instruments are allowed. Jubilee visitors also enjoy the impromptu music sessions held throughout the Jackson's Mill campus.

Photo Show
The Stonewall Jackson Jubilee Photo Club coordinates the Photo Show which gives amateur photographers an outlet to show their stuff. Rules can be obtained from the Jubilee.

Pie Contest
All West Virginia pie bakers are invited to bring the best of their best to the WV Pie Contest. Judges will decide who takes the title of the best pie baker in the state. Bakers should bring their pies to the Jubilee on Sunday for free entry into the event. Judging will be at 1 p.m. at the E.E.C. building. Pies should be of WV fruits, vegetables, or nuts. Pies that need refrigeration are not allowed. Call your local county extension office for rules.

Quilt Show
One of the most-visited exhibitions is the Quilt Show housed at the West Virginia Building. The show is sponsored by Lewis County Extension Clubs with financial support provided by the Jubilee Board. Approximately 75 individuals or guild groups enter the show each year. Entries are not juried but the quilt must be of a heritage nature, no liquid embroidery or fabric paints allowed. In conjunction with the Quilt Show, a Quilting Workshop is held annually.

West Virginia Book Sale
A number of authors with books about the state will be available to talk to Jubilee visitors at the WV Book Sale.

Woodchopping Demonstrations
Woodchopping demonstrations take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in an area close to the entrance to Mount Vernon Dining Hall. Students from West Virginia University's Forestry School drop by to show off their skills in the woodchopping arena. The WVU students have won national and international titles.
